Sources: Crompton snubbed Manning week of Western Kentucky

1448139879_0a74c872d1What do you get when you put Peyton Manning and Jonathan Crompton in the same room? A ticked off former UT quarterback, that’s what.

At least that’s what some are saying from their last meeting with each other.

Remember when Manning was in town recently? Think back to the weekend Tennessee played Western Kentucky at Neyland Stadium- that’s when Manning had an interesting exchange with Crompton in the training room at the Neyland-Thompson Sports Complex- at least that’s what sources say.

Manning is a team player and when he’s on campus he is usually busy either awarding his scholarship or in the case of his latest visit, giving a bucket load of money back to the athletic department.

Anyway, according to one source, the Tennessee great sat down in the training room with the Vols’ current signal caller and Manning began talk to him. As Manning and Crompton talked, members of the team in the training room began to gather around to listen to what Manning had to say to Crompton.

It appears the only person in the room that wasn’t paying attention to Manning was the very person who could use his advice the most- Crompton. Sources say Crompton was looking around the room as if to appear disinterested in what Manning had to say.

It gets better… errr… or worse, depending on whether you view this story as a tragic inside look at the Vols’ offensive leader or a humorous story to illustrate why the Vols can’t seem to get it together. I view it as both.

Crompton’s next move, according to sources, was to excuse himself to the restroom. He never returned. Needless to say, Manning wasn’t happy about Crompton’s insulting behavior. The term “pissed off” was used to describe Manning’s feelings regarding the situation- at least that’s what we’re hearing.

42476126Like a true professional, Manning shook it off and talked to the receivers for another half hour.

First, if this is indeed what happened, Crompton showed a lot of hubris to think that he doesn’t need to hear what Peyton Manning has to say to him. Second, if he refuses to show interest in what Manning, an NFL great, has to say, is he really capable of learning from Lane Kiffin? Is he smart enough to realize who he needs to be listening to?

If there ever was a QB at Tennessee that could benefit from the lessons taught by Peyton Manning, it would be Jonathan Crompton.

  2. Vol Man says:

    Jonathan Crompton—the next Peyton Manning—he’s a superstar!!!!

  3. Fred says:

Manning isn’t being a team player either by snubbing Lane Kiffin the way he has. How could anyone who wanted Fulmer to stay care anything over UT football. He led the program to as worst as it’s ever been.

  4. Adrian H. says:

Crompton is a JOKE, a really bad joke. Come on Lane Kiffin the word your looking for is NEXT! It is obvious that the other players are not supporting him, their not on the same page. I bleed orange and this breaks my heart. He was a great high school QB, but if you don’t have it together by your 5th year….just forget it. Bow out gracefully and never, ever disrespect Peyton. Who has a million other worthwill things to do. Enough time and resources have been spent on this guy. Enough is enough. Good luck on your next career Jon.

  5. Laughing At Fred says:

Uh, Fred – if Peyton were snubbing Lane Kiffin he wouldn’t have been in the Tennessee locker room trying to pass on some of his experience to Lane Kiffin’s players.

You aren’t very smart, are you?

  6. Larry says:

Chip Cain – you could get a job for the Globe or Gazette or one of those sleazy ball magazines. What a useless article. Yeah this will help everybody out. Your ignorance is only surpassed by your ego.

  7. Gern Blanston says:

I wouldn’t listen to that POS either. Good for Crompton.

  8. wolfedaddy says:

its funny ghost-killa how not just the author of this article knew this, but about every other no name in knoxville knew about it on account of players…..ACTUAL PLAYERS who were there and let the cat out of the bag. so apparently you dont know as much as you think you do…… and p.s i aint no ghost so i guess you cant kill me……..

  9. J/C says:

Notice it says, “According to one source” BUT! He doesn’t name the SOURCE! I’d say this is a load of crap!

  10. jim says:

Mr. Crompton is the worst QB I have seen at Tennessee. I am a Tennessee graduate and have had season tickets for 33 years. If Mr. Crompton was half the QB Peyton Manning was (and is), we would have a winning season. In my opinion, he would have a hard time competing for ballboy, and probably would lose out because of his inability to throw the ball back to the punter in warm-up. This season is over! Why not play Stephens and prepare for 2010. As it appears now, 2010 will be as bad as 2009 offensively unless a miracle occurs.

  11. barba bentonite says:

Why does Crompton need Peyton manning to show him how to lose to UF? He already knows how to do that..
